Campus Mini-Gardens

Curtin University is home to many campus mini-gardens in Bentley. Some can be found on the Curtin University map. We find others through exploring the campus or by word of mouth. On December 25 and 28, 2024, I decided to conduct a series of non-human interviews with a the mini-gardens on campus. It is past time we humans discussed non-human needs with non-humans. In these interviews, I gained much wisdom from the non-humans that I communicated and communed with. Giving my attention, in such a way, to nature, allowed me space and time to see things as they could be. The land I interviewed has such potential for small projects that wouldn't cost very much. Having land isn't just about pretty things. Things can be pretty and useful in multiple ways without breaking the bank. If we love the land it will love us back. If we nurture the land it will nurture us back. How can we say no to that which nourishes us?

I acknowledge the Whadjuk People of the Noongar nation who are the Traditional Custodians of the land, sea and air that I live, study and work on. I also acknowledge the Yamatji People who are the Traditional Custodians of my birthplace. I give, with a willing soul, due regard to all Indigenous Peoples across the globe and all Elders past, present and future. Furthermore, I recognise the inherent value of Indigenous connection to country and Indigenous spiritual belief systems. First Nations People occupied Australia prior to colonisation. No white law will ever change that.
