Hydroponics

Hydroponics is cultivation using nutrient-rich water rather than soil (Iberdrola n.d.). People grow plants using hydroponics on a small or large scale. The upside to hydroponics is that it uses less resources than more traditional forms of cultivation such as agriculture and horticulture. In fact, when it comes to water use, this form of cultivation allows for the recycling and reuse of water, making is sustainable. However, a key drawback is technology and equipment purchases and replacements to enable this form of cultivation. It would work well for a community garden with access to decent funding. However, one on a shoestring budget would need to reconsider using this form of cultivation.

I acknowledge the Whadjuk People of the Noongar nation who are the Traditional Custodians of the land, sea and air that I live, study and work on. I also acknowledge the Yamatji People who are the Traditional Custodians of my birthplace. I give, with a willing soul, due regard to all Indigenous Peoples across the globe and all Elders past, present and future. Furthermore, I recognise the inherent value of Indigenous connection to country and Indigenous spiritual belief systems. First Nations People occupied Australia prior to colonisation. No white law will ever change that.
